Kidney Stones

Kidney stones are hard mineral deposits that form in the kidneys and can cause severe pain when passing through the urinary tract. Symptoms may include sharp back or side pain, blood in the urine, and nausea. 

What are Kidney Stones?

Hard deposits of minerals and salts that form inside the kidneys, often causing severe pain or urinary blockage.

  • Sudden, sharp pain in the side or back
  • Pain radiating to lower abdomen or groin
  • Blood in urine
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • CT scan
  • Ultrasound
  • X-ray
  • Conservative management with hydration and medication
  • Shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL) to break stones
  • Laser lithotripsy via ureteroscopy
  • Mini-PCNL or PCNL for larger stones
